I have strolled in the meadows and beyond the hills I have climbed climbed the mountains and ran the fields. I have reached up to the heavens and bowed my mighty head. I have snorted and roared until you could hear my voice far beyond the clearing of the wild. I have ruled my lands and my herd, but what do I do now.I was captured in a corner beneath the cliffs with my hooves way up high. I fought and I bit until I was on the ground with ropes tying me down. Why have you done this, why do you care and what do I do now?
Put in a cage, beat and blistered, carried across the land to a place I can not phantom. My friends crying begging me to do something, begging for help. Where are we going, what can you do, what will we do now?
I pushed and I shoved to make the side of the train. Let me though, let me by so I can save all of you. I used all of my might but there was no room, nothing but dust and nothing but doom. I hung my head in shame for as strong as I was there was nothing I could do, nothing more to say, I was no longer the leader, I was no longer ok.
The blood ran down my leg from the wound I obtained and weaker I became. As we were shuttled out of the train and into a pen I realized I could barely walk and it was close to the end. I looked around, oh so sad, for I knew as I watched with fear as my family was shuffled to the front of the pen. Where are they going what are you doing, what can I do now?
Bids were called out, 20 dollars, no 30. Was the value of horse flesh so worthless. Each walked to their death with heads hung low. I watch as my kid, he was purchased for a few dollars more, my tears ran openly as I watched him fight, but a shot in the neck dropped him to the floor. He stumbled to raise from his knees and with a rope and a collar he pass through an open door. The last I would see of him, how can this be. Were we not gods creatures, what's happening to me?
My wife, my mate, the mare of my choice so beautiful she stands there so proud. I can see the fierce look upon her eye, shhhh I neigh before they do to you what they did to the kid. Her head turns my way but not a sound does she say. What's happening here what's happening today?
A rope and a collar was placed around her neck. As she was lead through the door I screamed with all of my might, I will never forget, I love you I cried. Up in the air my wounded leg did rise, the snort that came from my inners was my very last cry. My ears penned back I kicked and I fought to get to the front where she could see me once more. Nothing, not even a sound came from the door.
Into the ring I strutted, my head held high, to my death I would go but not without pride. I ignored the probe of electrical charge. I ran around, squealing, and snorting like a stallion in style. Take me I yelled, take me away, take me you humans and kill me today. For you have stolen my love ones, you have stolen my life, so take me away and kill me today.
The pain was too much and I settled down for the end. A rope and collar was placed on my neck. I walked without trouble, I walked without care. Behind the door another cage did I see, I'll entered it gladly for there was nothing left for me. A voice soft and slow said clean up that cut and bandage it before he is loaded, before we can go.
It was so dark and so quiet, I no longer held my head up high. I was riding to my death in the dark midnight sky. Hours it seemed before the cage stopped. The voice that I heard was now coming my way. Back it up close and open the door, be careful he's wild and he might storm out the door. Why would I do that, why would I care, storm out to what, out to no where. No I will walk to my death I will walk to my end, but I promise you something, when god ask me about you, I will tell him you were no friend.
Off the edge I stepped into a field I will never forget. There was my lady and oh goodness my kid. The boy was jumping and excited as heck. Look at us dad, we made it I guess. We are in heaven just like you said. I looked around and what did I see, nothing but green pastures rising up before me. A few fences to keep us in but plenty of room to run and to play and luscious green pastures to eat all of the day.
I turned and I looked there was the voice, a woman with blue eyes and a touch of gray hair. "You will like it here" she quietly spoke, " You will stay here until we get you broke". The years passed by, Kid was no longer here, but I remember he was excited to go. I have my mate and both her and I are very old.
The old lady came out of the barn, she whistled for me. I already had started to run, I knew when she came we would go out and have fun. She mounted, with a tap we headed out in the open and never looked back. We galloped and loped and trotted a bit, she let her hair down to blow in the wind. Up on the top of the mountain she stopped, bent and padded my long forelock. Your a beauty and a gift from the gods, I couldn't give you up, I had to adopt. This will be our last ride, for I am old and I hurt all over and inside. I hope in the end when you face god and he ask, you will say it was worth it and I made a friend in the end.
I will say even more, I will say what I feel, I will tell him the truth that Dreams really do come true.
