01/20/2010: "Slaughter in our own backyards!"
How can it happen we ask ourselves? We are civilized and don't we pay attention to what goes on around us? After the story of Jaycee Dougan broke I was shocked that such things could happen and not just once, but over decades and the neighbors noticed or heard nothing. Now another story has broken and I am just as shocked and to think it was right in our back yards.
A man was arrested yesterday for soliciting meat to the public that was un-certified nor was he licensed to sell. At first it was though that he was poaching deer and was selling that on the open market, but it was discovered that he in-fact was linked to a ring that had been stealing horses. He has admitted to slaughtering over 40 horses and selling them for deer meat. His excuse was that the times are hard and he had a family to support. Horses from Michigan, Ohio, and Indiana were taken. Warrants for three other men in the county have been issued. James Platter, Herschel Cox, Dennis Myers, Victor Spicier will have to face the outrage of the public for what they have done.
The victims will be notified of their loss and for a short time we can all sleep a little better knowing that the crazy horse thieves are behind bars.
